I’ve been writing stories my whole life. Not short stories or novels, but true stories, mostly about what goes on in my brain, and in the darkest corners of my heart. The stories I write are so true, I’ve been called an exhibitionist… a performance artist… as well as that most dubious of distinctions, memoirist. I don’t know where it comes from. It’s not like I choose to write embarrassingly honest stories about myself. It’s just what happens when I sit down and pick up a pen — which is often. If anyone ever breaks into my house, they’ll be delighted to find a whole library’s worth of smutty diaries, controversial journals, and demented books filled with glue-stained collages. You don’t have to go that far, but I do want to inspire you to write your own totally true stories on these postcards, whether to yourself or to someone you love. That’s why I got you started with one of my own totally true love stories on every Your Burning Desire postcard, which you can find by scanning the QR code on the back of every card. I guess I should mention, too, that in my book, a “love story” is really just a true story that comes from your heart. Sometimes they’re sweet, sometimes they’re sour, and sometimes they’re salty to the point of outright contempt. Such is the nature of love, amirite? I won’t tell anyone about your stories if you don’t tell anyone about what I write in mine… Thanks, bestie. ❤️🔥—Y.B.D.
