There is an art to cultivating your desires — an art that will absolutely determine the success of your fulfillment. Please don’t get intimidated if you don’t consider yourself an “artist,” because you could just as easily think of this art as a skill… one that anybody is capable of developing. Whatever it is, this skill definitely requires practice — and lots of it. But please, don’t worry for a second about being good at it. So let’s just call it a practice, okay? The practice I’m about describe is not a complicated activity. In fact, it’s so simple, even a child could do it — and they do! Come to think of it, children tend to be much better at this activity than adults are, because they have fewer inhibitions. My point is that it doesn’t matter how you do it. It only matters that you do it. (Hence, the practice.) As early and often as possible! You may know this activity by its more common names. Daydreaming. Or even, fantasizing. But in the world of fulfillment, we have a more descriptive name for it. Creative visualization. Creative visualization is the practice of getting quiet with yourself so you can form pictures in your mind about situations and scenarios that you want to happen. This is exactly the opposite of what most adults do, when we get a free moment to spend in our own heads: worry, worry, worry. When you worry, you are forming pictures in your mind about situations and scenarios that you don’t want to happen. From there, people go down a mental rabbit hole of strategizing how to prevent what they don’t want to happen from happening to them. Worrying doesn’t feel good. It feels depleting and draining, because there’s never any end to it. One worry often bleeds right into another, which calls for endless strategizing about how to prevent all the things you’re afraid of happening to you. That reminds me of an important point about worrying, and why it feels like such a drag. Worrying is based on fear. (I mean, obviously, right?) Creative visualization, by contrast, is a practice that has very little to do with fear. Instead, it has everything to do with love. That’s because when you sit down to do your creative visualization, you’ll be forming pictures in your mind about what you want to have happen to you. Which is another way of saying you’re going to be forming pictures in your mind about what you desire. Put more simply, you’ll be visualizing what you love. Remember that love is simply your natural human desire to enjoy your relationships with the people, places, and things in your world — including yourself. But the power and the purpose of creative visualization isn’t just about giving yourself an enjoyable fantasy experience, as you sit and think about lots of nice things you’d love to have happen to you. The purpose of creative visualization is to help you get what you want, quite literally. That’s why I want you to ditch the bad reputation we adults tend to hold onto about activities like daydreaming and fantasizing. Namely, that they’re a pointless, childish waste of time. Note the word creative in “creative visualization.” It speaks to the fact that forming these mental pictures about scenarios and situations you’d love to have happen will help you create something wonderful for yourself. Like I said, worrying makes you strategize about how to prevent what you’re worrying about from happening to you. Your busy mind goes to town trying to help you avoid those bad scenarios you’re imagining from becoming your reality. But when you regularly make time to practice creative visualization, your busy mind will go to town finding ways to help you bring those good things you desire into your reality. Please don’t worry (ha!) about all that needing to happen quite yet, though. I’m just making the point that the success of your creative visualization depends entirely upon you making the time and space to actually do it. That’s because day-to-day life is often way too hectic and demanding for our desires to bubble up from our subconscious and make their way into our everyday, conscious experience. Creating your Burning Desire starts with creating the space for your desires to start forming inside you. ❤️‍🔥—Y.B.D.
