It’s been a whole year since I’ve seen you, my love, and a year and a half, almost, since you last let me touch you. And I want you to know that nobody has come close to you, for me, since then. In fact, my love for you seems to get stronger with each day that passes! Believe me, I’ve tried everything I could think of to prevent this, since I know you want nothing more to do with me. But my love for you remains, stubborn as ever, oblivious to the massive stone wall of Truth you erected to protect yourself from me. Unfortunately, it really does seem to be the case that love knows no bounds. Oh, how I wish this wasn’t so! I’ve prayed to God to starve my love for you, to shrink it into submission, or at the very least, to transfer it over to some other romantic interest. (Preferably to someone who truly wants my love, and would return it in kind.) All to no avail, of course. And in the meantime, here I stand, full of regret for the way I treated you, and for the way you shut me out, and for all the childish anger that destroyed the beautiful and rare love we enjoyed together. At least I don’t try to pretend anymore that I’m moving on, or that my love for you is dead and buried. Boy, was that exhausting — trying to deny the presence of a love so relentlessly alive, even growing! Now, I have learned to live with my love for you burning inside me still, coping as best I can with the glaring mismatch between my love and your Truth. My silly hope is that one day you’ll see me again, my love, so you won’t be able to help but also see that love burning brightly for you still. I like to imagine that in that moment, I could turn to face you, and watch you take a deep, fresh breath of True Love. ❤️🔥—Y.B.D.
