Lots of us grew up believing that “feeling the love” or “finding fulfillment” meant chasing people, places, and things outside ourselves. Things like a huge house, a wide circle of friends, a prime job, lovely vacations, an attractive spouse… et cetera. Don’t get me wrong, that stuff can be great to have. But they’re all just icing on the cake — a byproduct of you developing a strong relationship with the love that’s already inside you. I can guarantee you, that love exists inside you, right now. Let me say that again: the love you want to feel is already inside you — even if you’re not currently experiencing it. The process of fulfilling your Burning Desire will help you build a strong and lasting relationship with the love that is already inside you. Yes, no matter how long that love has been dormant, repressed, or frustrated. Because the thing about love is that it’s a living, breathing thing. Love may not be visible, like a plant or a cow, but it’s still alive — it’s a form of energy. And like any living thing, your love needs to be given the proper conditions to sustain itself and grow. The love inside you needs all the care, attention, and support of a relationship with you. Remember that love is simply your natural human desire to enjoy your relationships with the people, places, and things in your world — including yourself. So that’s exactly why, if you avoid looking at the truth about yourself… if you beat yourself up for feeling certain ways… and if you repress your desires for what you really want… the love inside you will start to wither and die, for lack of acknowledgment and expression. When your love goes dark inside you, its effect on you is that you experience suffering. Depression. Anxiety. Anger. Addiction. Or just your growing numbness to life. Eventually, your personality turns into a shadow of who you used to be, or who you had the potential to be. But the worst thing a lack of love does to humans is that it makes us withdraw. Not just from other people, or from the world’s opportunities, but from ourselves. People can run so low on love that it makes them want to escape themselves, or even put an end to their own life. There’s a word for this force that can sap the life out of humans — no matter what their age, race, gender, or economic status is. Believe it or not, it’s not sadness. It’s fear. Sometimes, people understand that even though what they want is love… they also know that love is exactly what they’ve been afraid of. ❤️‍🔥—Y.B.D.
