Susan Miner is one of my favorite ‘80s models because of the combination of confidence and vulnerability she projects. She’s like, a tough girl who’s in need of love and affection, deep down (or maybe, not so deep down). Here, she’s dressed up like some kind of a birthday gift, but her stance and attitude say get the f- out of my way. “A Girl in Trouble Is a Temporary Thing” is actually an unforgettable ‘80s song by the band Romeo Void, whose name is yet another contradiction in terms, now that I think about it. And I like to believe in the truth of that phrase: that no matter how down or hopeless or fucked-up I think my life is, the reality is that my feelings and my circumstances are only temporary. That means that the dark cloud will lift at some point, and the sun will shine again. The only question is how soon I open myself up to asking for and receiving help from powers and sources outside myself. Because as long as I stay all wrapped up inside my own head, those same dark feelings and circumstances will continue to hound me. Susan’s pose here tells me she’s probably not the type to want to ask for help, either, but her candy-pink gift wrapping of a dress suggests otherwise. The fantastic painted Miami background on this card is the work of a super talented artist, Lisa Remeny. ❤️🔥—Y.B.D.
