It takes a very particular kind of person to hold out for True Love. After all, there are a lot of people out there who partner up for reasons that have more to do with convenience, circumstance, or simply the fear of being alone. What also muddies the waters of True Love is the conventional wisdom that will constantly remind you that nobody’s perfect. And that’s exactly the rationale many people use for settling into a relationship that is far from perfect. Clearly, yes, we are all imperfect people. But I happen to believe that there are relationships and people who are perfect for me. I believe there are people I would go the extra mile for, people I would stick with in the darkest of storms, people I could just sit and listen to and admire for exactly who they are. And that’s exactly the kind of person I want to be with: somebody who inspires me to be my best and most loving self. I don’t want to control anyone; I don’t want to be pampered or “taken care of.” I have absolutely no agenda besides wanting a beautiful relationship. And I want that relationship to be a place that exists outside the bounds of space and time — a place that represents the union of our spirits. A place where we could take refuge in each other’s presence and company, and just kind of hang, secure and together, in our love. A place where I finally feel comfortable expressing my love, because I know it will find a safe and welcoming landing. Call me a very particular kind of person, if you will. But I have a good and true feeling that my own particular kind of person is just around the way, looking for me, too. ❤️🔥—Y.B.D.
