Sigh — is there any truer kind of statement, when your heart is full of love for another person? Yes, I suppose we are talking mainly about romantic love here, or even just carnal, lustful love — which, yes, I would still classify as love in some form. Because love, I think, is simply your natural human desire to enjoy a given level of relationship with a particular person, place, or thing. As a matter of fact, I don’t think people use the word “love” nearly often enough! Instead, we reserve it for our only closest friends and family members — and, in doing so, we put up a wall somewhere in our hearts and minds that prevents other kinds of relationships from growing and blossoming as they otherwise naturally might. But I digress! Back to the card. I think it’s funny that here we have a model known for being a cool, icy blonde (the fabulous Nancy Donahue), posed against a backdrop of cool blues. And yet, the statement she’s making is red-hot levels of intense. “I Want You to Want Me” is, of course, the chorus and song title of a great song by the band Cheap Trick. It’s one that’s been loved by many over the years for its honest and forthright pleas for the same love and lust as the singer has for the object of his affection. Because where’s the fun in unrequited love, except for the most masochistic of lovers? Sure, this level of honesty might be intimidating as heck to express to another person, but let me ask you this… would it be worth it, if it worked? ❤️‍🔥—Y.B.D.
