If you think I’m normal, then I think you have the wrong idea about me. Not that I’d even claim to know what “normal” means, anymore. But I do know that I don’t have the same values and priorities, when it comes to relationships, as a lot of other people do. Not that I could even tell you how, exactly, my own values differ. I just know they must, otherwise I wouldn’t be so terminally alone all the time. People look at me and they can’t understand it, they act confused when I tell them that no, I don’t even attempt to have romantic relationships anymore, and no, I don’t date or “put myself out there” anymore, either. But I’ve sort of gotten used to my aloneness over the years, and it probably suits me better than any real, live person ever did. You see, nobody understands me perfectly, and nobody happens to be excellent listener. Nobody is fine with me picking what we watch on television, and nobody refuses to argue when I change our plans last minute. In other words, nobody is a very accommodating partner, and that’s probably what I need, given what a particular person I tend to be. The only problem is that nobody lacks the presence, I guess you’d call it, that might help me feel warm and comforted in my moments of greatest need. Fortunately, I never got used to having it any other way, so the feeling of someone’s arms around me, or a hand holding mine, isn’t something I actually remember having, so I can’t exactly miss it. I’ve even found a creative way to express the love I have inside me (these crazy little postcards), instead of devoting that love to one special person I care about. So, you see, I’m not a heartless bitch after all. ❤️🔥 —Y.B.D.
