Day-to-day life isn’t easy. And even if it is easy, it isn’t always uplifting or inspiring. There are plenty of times when the sky looks gray, our relationships fall flat, and our routines and responsibilities deaden our sense of fun or humor. And yet — the imagination can be a rich and fertile playground for helping ourselves out of this kind of mental or environmental gloomsday. For example, just the act of imagining myself with the kind of outrageously voluminous hair that disco queen Donna Summer boasts here is infusing some much-needed richness into my humdrum weekday morning. Set against the backdrop of a romantic Paris side street, this is a card packed with enough beauty and vitality to power me through a dreary day or mood. Along those lines, sometimes I like to imagine I’m the main character in a movie, and all the people around me are scripted to help me fulfill a quest, or solve a mystery, or just horse around with me on some new and interesting playground. Great plot twists might be just around the corner! And at the very least, maybe the costume and makeup designers could help me transform into the kind of person I would enjoy trying on for size, if only for a few minutes or hours. No matter where you are, the power of your imagination is as close at hand as your next thought.
