I’ve never been great with telling jokes or coming up with witty one-liners on the fly, but this phrase — buy low, sell myself high — just came to me one day when I was thinking about my jewelry resale hustle on eBay. When it’s applied to the issue of self-esteem, the buy low part doesn’t resonate as much as the sell myself high. But together, it works. For me, that motto has everything to do with how I present myself to the world. If I don’t value myself and the strengths I have to offer, then no one else is going to, either. Particularly in the areas of career and personal relationships, I constantly have to remind myself that I am allowed to go after exactly what I want, and I don’t have to settle for a first offer — or for anyone or anything that doesn’t make me both happy and comfortable. In fact, sometimes in the act of saying, “nope, that’s not for me, I’ll pass,” I can actually feel my self-esteem rising. Actually, I don’t have to “sell myself” at all — at least, not in the inauthentic, anxious, people-pleasing way I used to. This card is a reminder that all you have to do is show up as your most real and comfortable self, and the right people, places, and things will show up for you. By the way, the model here is one of my favorites, Nancy Donahue, looking especially confident… and radiating natural attractiveness in the process. ❤️‍🔥— Y.B.D.
